Charvel made some of the shreddingest guitars in the history of guitar. In ’86, they released their Japanese-made ‘Model’ series on the world, offering phenomenal high-performance super-strat style guitars in a variety of pickup configurations.
What we have here is a Model 5 in all of it’s glory. Neck-thru construction on a super-strat body. The pickups are J80C active Hi-output humbuckers that are controlled by a volume, a tone, and a mid-boost control for the factory Jackson mid-boost preamp. The 5-way switch actually coil taps each pickup.
The trem is one of the best floating designs ever made; the Khaler Standard. Featuring fine tuners and a locking nut, this is one of the smoothest responding, best-intonated floating systems ever dreamed up. The tuners are Jackson stock machines.
This particular instrument has a couple chips out of the ‘Black Cherry’ finish, and a previous owner has sanded the neck down. We have since reinforced the headstock joint with glue (it did not break, but did come apart after the neck was sanded) and finished the bare wood with a tongue oil, giving it an excellent feel and protecting the wood.
This fella is set up to shred with 10s. Included with this bad dad is the original Jackson molded hardshell case. All in all, an awesome setup.
