F.E. Olds was a brass instrument manufacturer here in the U.S. from 1935 to 1979, and built professional instruments that were simple, well-built, and, in our opinion anyway, gorgeous.
This Super is from 1947 but hardly looks it in terms of condition; it bears hardly a scratch or dent on it. The red-brass bell has aged and does not appear to have been lacquered originally but the bell is otherwise unmolested and sports the signature Olds ‘Tone Ring’ that announces the make and model of the instrument.
The slide works well, and the horn sounds like a vintage American horn should sound – big and dark. Included with this instrument is the original case and a straight and cup mute, as well as the original mouthpiece.
