Jet City is a relative new-comer in the tube amplifier realm, and their focus is great-sounding tube amplifiers at a reasonable price. Well, the JCA20H nails that focus in a big – or rather, not-so-big – way. Electronics-wise, the circuit is a Mike Soldano-designed simple-but-efficient affair. EQ is handled with standard T/M/B controls, and there is a presence control that acts a bit like a mid filter.
The front end of the circuit has a gain control, and the back end sports a volume. This interplay means you can get good driving crunch at lower volumes by dialing up the one and down the other. You can also just turn both up and get a great dark modern tube overdrive sound. Dialing back the gain allows for a relatively clean sound that is still pretty crunchy, which lends itself to blues, grimy funk, or plain ol’ rock and roll voicings.
Volume-wise this amp is in the middle of the pack at 20 watts, which makes it a great size for medium-sized and smaller rooms, or for anywhere that has a PA they can mic you with! This head outputs at both 8 and 16 watts, meaning it plays nice with most guitar cabs.
This amplifier is in very very good shape, with the only issue being some aesthetic scuffing on the tolex. Included is the Eminence-loaded matching 12S+ Cabinet, which gives plenty of headroom, moves plenty of air, and looks great besides.
