The Dove is a classic Dreadnaught in style and tone, and Epiphone does a great job offering the sound of the ‘Big Brother’ Gibson at a much lower price-point.
This beauty features a bound solid spruce top with maple back and sides, which gives it a warm but crisp tone and a verbose but not bawdy speaking voice. The neck is straight and feels good, with the rosewood fretboard feeling more-than-comfortable under the fingers.Design-wise, the headstock bears the simple ‘crown’ inlay, while the frets are marked with split-parallelograms at all the normal positions. The Dove bridge is here and intact with not-too-overstated inlay, and of course the thing that really makes a Dove Dove – the engraved pickguard – is here in all of its elegance, set on top of a tasteful rosette.
The back of the guitar has two thin lines in the finish from weather-checking. There is some light buckle-rash on the back, and some light scratching on the pick-guard. Long-story short, this instrument has been played, and is ready to be played for many more gigs and jam sessions.
