This exceptional instrument is actually a bit of an oddity. Saint Blues in Memphis, TN. builds custom electric guitars, basses, and roots instruments here in the U.S., but about a decade ago decided to try to break in to the less expensive instrument market by providing high-quality Asian imports under the name S&T Custom. The line never took off, but some stock was made and exists in the States. This fine bass is an example of what could have been.
Designed after a Fender P Bass, this instrument sports a contoured back and flat, bound top. The wood is painted a translucent red-orange with a gorgeous sunbursted veneer out front. The neck is straight, true, and hefty as a P Bass neck ought to be. Pickups are very hot, with a control scheme sporting two volumes and a tone control. Don’t let the shape of the instrument fool you, however; the tonal variation achievable with this bass is astonishingly wide, going from as high and bright as a Mustang or as low and thunderous as, well, a P Bass.
Black hardware ties this sharp number together, and it has already been set up and intonated by a Kalamazoo local player, giving it true tone and easy action in a gorgeous package that is ready to rumble and wow all at once. Strap is included.
