Let’s start by laying some ground rules: Yamaha horns – at least the Japanese-made horns – are some of the best instruments on the market, with no exceptions. This horn exemplifies that tenant.
While considered a ‘student’ horn, this trumpet is all grown up in many ways. Featuring front and back kick-slides, adjustable front finger ring, dual water keys, and phenomenal construction – good, solid brass plumbing and clean, responsive valves.
The valves on this horn are in working order and have a lot of life left in them. Both water keys are relatively new cork. There are no dents or bends, with a completely unwrinkled bell and a straight-and-true lead-pipe.
This is a clean and serviceable trumpet that feels good and blows easy, and has the square-profile re-enforced ‘concert’ case that is in pretty good shape. It is ready to be a new player’s first horn, an experienced player’s spare, or a great way to get back in to playing after some time away.
